Two local details make the weekend feel especially Ocean City. Jolly Roger at the Pier sits inside the festival grounds, so the rides and games are right there between sets. Boardwalk businesses inside the festival footprint also operate as part of the weekend, which means the restaurants, bars, shops, and east coast beach food aren't just nearby. How Do You Get There and Where Do You Park?

Park at the West Ocean City Park & Ride and take the Beach Bus shuttle to South Division Street. During Country Calling, the special-event fare is $4 for a Ride-All-Day pass.

Downtown Ocean City doesn't have easy parking for a festival crowd, and the blocks nearest the Inlet fill first. The Park & Ride is the move for most groups driving in.

Use the West Ocean City Park & Ride. The Beach Bus shuttle connects to the South Division Street Transit Station, which puts you near the festival entrance area. The shuttle typically runs roughly every 20 minutes between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Budget for the fare change. The Park & Ride shuttle is normally free, but the Town charges during designated special events, and Country Calling is named as one of those events. Expect the $4 Ride-All-Day fare. Half fare is $2 for riders 65 and over, disabled riders, and Medicare card holders. Children 42 inches and under ride free.

Bring exact cash or use a prepaid photo ID bus pass from City Hall. That's not the glamorous part of the weekend, but it's the kind of detail that matters when your group is standing at the shuttle stop.

Two local notes matter. The Boardwalk tram is no longer in service, so the Boardwalk is on foot. And because early October is off-season for Boardwalk biking, there is no longer an hours restriction on bikes. That can make riding down to the Inlet a genuinely good option if your group is staying within a reasonable distance.

Class 2 and Class 3 electric bikes are not permitted on the Boardwalk at any time of year.

Where Should You Stay for Country Calling?

Downtown Ocean City is best if your group wants to walk to the festival. Midtown and North Ocean City offer a quieter home base and connect to the Inlet by Beach Bus, bike, rideshare, or shuttle plan.

If your group wants the easiest festival experience, Downtown and the south end of Ocean City are the most convenient. You'll be closest to the Inlet, closest to the Boardwalk, closest to the festival grounds, giving you options for your ride home.

The tradeoff is energy. Downtown is close, lively, and convenient. If your group wants to be in the middle of the action, that's the right call. If your group wants a quieter home base, easier mornings, or a little more separation from the festival crowd, look farther north.

Midtown can be a strong middle ground. You'll have restaurants, beach access, Coastal Highway convenience, and Beach Bus access without staying directly on top of the Inlet. For groups that want balance, Midtown often makes sense.

North Ocean City is usually the quieter choice. You're farther from the festival, so transportation takes more planning, but the payoff is a calmer fall setting. If your group wants the festival by night and a quieter coffee-and-ocean-air morning, North Ocean City may be the better fit.

Oceanfront rentals are especially appealing in early October. You may not be planning a full swim weekend, since the lifeguards are off duty, but beach walks, balcony coffee, sunrise views, and cooler fall air all work beautifully. The beach still matters, even when the weekend is built around music.

Pet-friendly rentals are also more relevant for Country Calling than they are for late-summer events. Dogs are allowed back on the Ocean City beach and Boardwalk starting October 1, which means festival weekend falls inside the pet-friendly beach window. Just remember that pet-friendly lodging and beach access don't automatically mean pets are allowed inside the festival grounds.

Most visitors focus on the lineup. The smoother weekend comes from planning around parking, transportation, lodging location, dog rules, beach safety, and the local rules that change once October begins.

Here's what most visitors miss.

• It's after guarded beach season. Country Calling happens after the Ocean City Beach Patrol's guarded season ends. The beach is still open and beautiful, but lifeguards are not on duty.
• Dogs are allowed back on the beach and Boardwalk. Starting October 1, dogs are permitted on the beach and Boardwalk again, as long as they're leashed and cleaned up after. Country Calling opens October 2, so the timing works.
• Pets are not allowed inside the festival grounds. Country Calling's official policy states that pets aren't allowed within the festival grounds, though trained service animals are permitted. Plan the dog's weekend around the beach, Boardwalk, and your rental, not inside the festival gates.
• Surf fishing has opened back up by hour. The summer daytime restriction on surf fishing runs through September 30. By festival weekend, the hour restriction has ended. You still need the proper license and should stay clear of other beachgoers.
• Boardwalk biking is unrestricted by hour. After Labor Day, the summer Boardwalk biking hours end. Bikes can be a smart way to reach the Inlet if your rental is close enough. Class 2 and Class 3 e-bikes are still not allowed on the Boardwalk.
• The Park & Ride shuttle doesn't run all night. During Country Calling, Park & Ride service ends one hour after the show ends. Have a plan before the last song.
• Public alcohol rules still apply outside the gates. Licensed festival areas are one thing. Open containers on the beach, Boardwalk, sidewalks, streets, and parking lots are another. The festival doesn't turn the rest of town into a tailgate.

That's the difference between reading a lineup and understanding the weekend.

What Early October Means in Ocean City

By Country Calling weekend, Ocean City has shifted into fall mode. Lifeguards are off duty, dogs are allowed on the beach and Boardwalk, surf fishing has opened back up by hour, and the beach remains free and open to the public.

Country Calling sits in a unique spot on the Ocean City calendar. A few important rules turn over in the days right before the festival.

Lifeguards Are Off Duty for the Season

The Ocean City Beach Patrol guards the beach through the third Sunday following Labor Day. In 2026, that date is September 27. Country Calling opens October 2, so the guarded season has ended by the time festival weekend begins.

The beach is still open and still beautiful, but lifeguards are not watching the water. Swimming without lifeguards is strongly discouraged. If your group wants ocean time, treat this as a beach walk, not a swim day.

Dogs Are Allowed Back on the Beach and Boardwalk

Dogs are permitted on the Ocean City beach and Boardwalk from October 1 through April 30. Country Calling starts October 2, so the dog-friendly beach window is open.

Dogs must be leashed, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them.

That makes Country Calling a rare festival weekend where your group can book a pet-friendly rental and still enjoy legal beach and Boardwalk walks with the dog. The festival itself is different: pets are not allowed inside the festival grounds, except trained service animals.

Surf Fishing Is Wide Open by Hour

Ocean City's daytime surf fishing restriction runs through September 30. By Country Calling weekend, that time-of-day restriction has ended.

You still need a Maryland saltwater fishing license, and you should stay at least 50 yards away from anyone on the beach or in the water. But compared with summer, early October gives surf anglers much more flexibility.

Boardwalk Biking Is Easier

After Labor Day, Ocean City's summer Boardwalk biking hours end. That means bikes are no longer restricted to the 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. window.

For Country Calling, that can be useful. If your rental is within a reasonable biking distance, riding to the Inlet may be easier than driving, parking, or waiting for a bus after the show.

Class 2 and Class 3 electric bikes are not allowed on the Boardwalk at any time of year.

Some Rules Do Not Change

The beach is free and open to the public from 5 a.m. to midnight, with no beach tags required.

Alcohol and open containers remain prohibited in public areas, including the beach, Boardwalk, sidewalks, streets, and parking lots. Glass containers are not allowed on the beach. The Boardwalk remains smoke-free.
