Starting the Tuesday after Labor Day, bikes are allowed on the Boardwalk at any time of day. Class 2 and Class 3 electric bikes are never allowed on the Boardwalk, in any season.

The simple version: ride early through Monday. Starting Tuesday, you have more flexibility.

Dogs Still Have to Wait

Dogs are allowed on the beach and Boardwalk only from October 1 through April 30. Labor Day weekend misses that window by several weeks, so dogs still aren't allowed on the sand or Boardwalk.

There is a year-round dog playground at 94th Street on the bayside if your group is traveling with a dog.

Surf Fishing Is Still Restricted

Surf fishing is not allowed on the public beach between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. through September 30.

Fish early or late, stay at least 50 yards from anyone on the beach or in the water, and carry the required Maryland saltwater fishing license.

The Coastal Highway Beach Bus runs the length of Ocean City for a $4 Ride-All-Day fare, and the West Ocean City Park & Ride offers free parking with a shuttle to South Division Street.

Labor Day traffic is still holiday traffic. It may be easier than some peak July weekends, but Friday arrivals, Saturday movement, beach weather, and dinner-hour traffic can still test the group's patience.

The Coastal Highway Beach Bus is the simple local option. It runs from the South Division Street Transit Station downtown to 144th Street in North Ocean City. The standard fare is $4 for a Ride-All-Day pass, and exact cash is required unless you use a prepaid City bus pass.

If you're driving in for the day, the West Ocean City Park & Ride offers free parking with shuttle service to South Division Street. That can save your group from circling downtown for parking during the busiest parts of the weekend.

A few practical notes:

  • If you're staying on the island, consider leaving the car at your rental.
