What is OCMD Like?
There is ALWAYS fun stuff to do while you’re at the beach in Ocean City, Maryland… particularly in the summertime. Millions of people make our beach town the home for their summer vacation year after year. And many have been doing so for a few generations now.
If there’s one negative about the summers in OCMD, it’s that there are too many options to choose from when you’re planning out your fun filled day- lucky for you, we’re here to give you our top 6 fun things to do in Ocean City, MD! 🙂
During the prime months of June, July, August, and even the first few weeks of September, OC is ‘in season.’ Everyone who is here is happy to be here because they’re on vacation! Families are playing at the beach, going out to dinners, and enjoying quality time with one another.
Some people love to relax on the beach for all 7 days of their Ocean City summer vacation. Others like to explore and experience our beach town to the fullest (if that’s you, check out our OCMD activities bingo card).
No matter what type of vacationer you are when you come to Ocean City, there’s always so many things to choose from. Today, we’ll show you what we love to do in OC during the summer with the hopes you’ll find something new!
1. Visit the Ocean City MD Boardwalk
If you’re looking for an evening packed with family fun, the boardwalk is the perfect place to do just that. Our boardwalk is what many consider to be the heartbeat of our town. There are countless businesses, arcades, restaurants, ice cream shops, you name it, the boardwalk probably has it.
If you’re staying at one of our downtown vacation rentals, you’re probably just a few steps away from the boardwalk. If you’re staying a bit further north, you may have to drive south to experience the boardwalk.
Once you arrive, you can simply take a stroll to see countless Ocean City staples such as Thrasher’s French Fries, Candy Kitchen, and Dumsers Dairyland. The fun doesn’t stop there. There are also countless arcades on the OCMD boardwalk, amusement parks (more on that later), and a bunch of great restaurants (we name a few in this blog)!
2. Head to the Beach!
This one goes without saying and is probably our favorite activity on this list. There’s just something about soaking up the sun while listening to the waves and cooling off in the Ocean. Plus, the kids love it too! They can boogie board, surf, build sandcastles, collect seashells, throw a frisbee, and most importantly, work off a bunch of energy so they sleep GREAT that night.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any secrets to share that are going to make your beach experience better than before, but if you’re looking for a change up, take some surf lessons from K-Coast!
3. Water Sports and Adventures
In Ocean City, there are a ton of options to choose from when it comes to participating in Water sports. This is a great way to switch it up a bit if you’re tired of the standard beach day (if that’s even possible).
Go check out our friends at the Sea Rocket– to go parasailing, rent kayaks, take a speed boat down the coast of OC, and even go on a dolphin tour! Last summer we had an awesome time on the Sea Rocket. Check it out!
If you’re staying at one of our Midtown vacation rentals from 29th to 66th street or 67th street to 94th street, consider visiting bayside Boat Rentals for a pontoon or Jet Ski rental, or 48th St Water Sports for kayaks, sailing, paddleboarding, and more!
4. Family-Friendly Attractions
After you’ve finished up dinner at one of the best restaurants in Ocean City, it’s time for some family fun! If you’ve already visited the boardwalk, you probably noticed a couple Ferris wheels at the end of the boardwalk.
These Ferris Wheels are located at Jolly Roger, and Trimper Rides. Both of these amusement parks are a great time for your family and will make for an evening to remember.
If you’re finished up at the amusement park but you’re not ready for the fun to end, you can visit Ripley’s Believe It Or Not or one of our favorite mini-golf courses in Ocean City!
5. Dining and Culinary Experiences
If there’s one thing we’ve written a lot about on our blog page, it’s FOOD. It’s one of our favorite things about Ocean City! You can get just about whatever kind of food you’re looking for whether it’s seafood and crabs or a nighttime sweet treat.

6. Shopping in Ocean City
Last on our list, is the almost countless hopping opportunities in Ocean City. If we stopped to name all of them, this section would be endless. There are a number of amazing boutiques in OC such as South Moon Under, Ish, and Patty Jeans… but the shopping doesn’t stop there.
You’re probably already familiar with the Rehoboth outlets, which are only about a 30 minute drive from Ocean City… but did you know there are Outlets in West Ocean City too?? The West OC outlets feature all of the essentials such as Coach, Under Armour, Ulta, Home Goods, Old Navy, and more!

From shopping and great dining to family friendly activities and our boardwalk, there’s always something to do when you’re on your family vacation to Ocean City.
